Engagement
2.15%
(average likes + average comments) ÷ followers
258 interactions. Shares and views are not in this definition. 1–3% is an ordinary range for a larger Instagram account, on this followers method only.
Worked example
By followers: 12,000 followers, 240 average likes, and 18 average comments. Interactions are 258, so the rate is 258 ÷ 12,000, which is 2.15%. Switch to by views and the same likes and comments are divided by views, with shares added, and the follower count is left out.
FAQ
- Which interactions count?
- By followers uses likes and comments only. By views uses likes, comments, and shares, divided by views. The page does not mix the two.
- What is a good rate?
- The quiet, ordinary, and strong bands are a rough guide for a larger Instagram account on the followers method. They are not shown for the views method, and they are not a target.
- Should I use one post or an average?
- An average across recent posts. One viral post will overstate the rate you can usually offer.
