Gamepad Tester
Live buttons, sticks, and analog triggers from a connected controller. No extra permission.
Waiting. Press a button on a connected controller so the browser can see it.
No extra permission is asked. The Gamepad API only reports a pad after it has been used on this page.
Worked example
Press a button on a connected Xbox or PlayStation pad. The page lists that device, lights A / Cross (slot 0) with a ● while it is down, and shows left-stick axes near −1 to 1 as you move them. Analog triggers print a 0–1 value while they are half-pulled.
FAQ
- Why does it say to press a button first?
- Browsers only expose a controller after it has been used on this page. No extra permission is requested.
- Do the labels match the plastic on the pad?
- When the mapping is “standard”, labels follow the W3C gamepad slots (Xbox names first, PlayStation in the same slot). A non-standard pad shows indices only.
- Can I test rumble?
- If the browser exposes a vibration actuator, Test rumble fires a short dual-rumble pulse. Many pads and browsers skip this.
- Does this work on a phone?
- A Bluetooth pad can work, but Safari and some Android browsers expose buttons poorly. This is a desktop tester first.
