PDF OCR / Text Extractor
Extract selectable text, or run OCR on a scanned PDF. The file stays on your device.
Your PDF stays on this device. Selectable text is used when it exists. Scanned pages run OCR locally with Tesseract — language data may be fetched from a CDN the first time.
Upload a scanned PDF to run OCR, or a digital PDF to extract its text.
Worked example
A scanned one-page letter with almost no selectable text is rendered and read with Tesseract in the browser. You can copy the result or download letter-ocr.txt.
FAQ
- When is OCR used?
- If the PDF already has a solid text layer, that text is used and OCR is skipped. Sparse scans run OCR page by page.
- How accurate is OCR?
- It depends on the scan. Faint, skewed, or handwritten pages will misread. Check the output.
- Does the file leave the device?
- The PDF stays local. Tesseract may fetch language data from a CDN the first time.
